Sorry for the delay... we had Hannah evaluated by EI about a week ago. Two speech therapists came to the house and we all sat in the playroom for about 2 hours. They didnt just evaluate her speech, they had her do puzzles and stack blocks and stick tooth picks into a sugar shaker. They watched her play and watched her eat. She came out with flying colors, but.....I wasnt worried about those things, it was her speech.
While they were there she said more, daddy, piper, baby and done. I knew as they praised her that she wouldnt qualify and I was getting frustrated but I held it in- haha
At the end they told me that she is right on for everything for her age and her speech is at an 18 month level BUT to qualify it needs to be at 15 month level.....ugh.....
They think she is doing great. She is making all the correct sounds "pa" and "ba" and "ma" and using double constanants "mama" "dada"
She is just on the low end of normal but they are not concerned that she wont get there on her own. I still feel like she needs a little push but I am trying to back off and give her time. We were told to call them back when she turns 2 if we want to get her evaluated again.
For now we have to stop giving into her grunts...you know how hard that is??? Seems easy but its not - so when she wants something we have to say the word 3 times before she gets it.
up? up? up?
water? water? water?
nonni? nonni? nonni?
Some days she does use a word and others she doesnt.... so for now we wait and see.
They also said that she may never be a huge talker - yes, she will be able to talk but she my just be a quiet girl - unlike her brother =)
